Hello Families!
I just wanted to update you on what we have been reading in class. We are currently reading the autobiography titled, Through My Eyes written by Ruby Bridges. We are practicing our inferencing skills as we read about Ruby integrating William Frantz Public School (located in New Orleans) as a six year old child in 1960. We are also taking a closer look at some excerpts from this book in our classroom rbooks to help develop our overall comprehension. As a whole, the students seem excited to read this book and it has led to some great classroom discussions. The students are also working on writing responses using direct evidence from the text to support their answers. Students have also been reading chapter books in small groups. This has given them a nice break from the independent reading corner. When the students have the opportunity to talk about the reading with their peers it helps stimulate excitement and interest for the shared reading experience.
